OPD arrests Missouri man for sexual assault of a juvenile in Owensboro

Update (3:20 p.m.): After a search warrant was obtained and executed on Christopher Bertolett’s cell phone, evidence was collected portraying the juvenile in a sexual manner. Bertolett has received additional charges of 14 counts of use of a minor (under 16 years old) in a sex performance and one count of prohibited use of electronic communication systems to procure a minor for sex offenses.

A 53-year-old man from Missouri has been arrested after allegedly traveling to Owensboro and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old female victim on Monday, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to reports, OPD responded at approximately 11:33 a.m. Monday to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for a reported juvenile sexual assault. 

Detectives determined the victim had been contacted via social media by the suspect, Christopher R. Bertolett. Based upon the investigation, it is believed that Bertolett traveled to Owensboro with the intent to engage in a sexual encounter with the juvenile at a local hotel, according to OPD. 

At the time Bertolett was located by officers, he was in the process of checking out of the hotel and leaving Owensboro. Bertolett has been charged with third-degree rape and three counts of third-degree sodomy.
