The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce will host a free drive-thru COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the Owensboro Convention Center from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday. The Green River District Health Department will provide the option of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or the two-dose Moderna vaccine.

Individuals that choose to receive the Moderna vaccine will be contacted by the Health Department to schedule their second dose following 28 days. Both vaccines are approved for individuals aged 18 and older.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for individuals to get their vaccine,” said Candance Castlen Brake, Chamber President and CEO. “Individuals will be able to come to the Convention Center by car, by bus, by trolley, or walking, and leave with a life-saving vaccine that protects them and their loved ones. We encourage people to take advantage of this opportunity to get their shot if they haven’t already.”

There is no cost to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of insurance status. No appointment is required. Individuals must bring a photo ID and health insurance card, if applicable.

To enter the clinic, turn right onto Locust Street from 2nd Street. Individuals will receive registration paperwork then pull forward to receive the vaccine, all while remaining in their car. After receiving the vaccine, individuals will be directed to a parking spot to wait for the designated 15 minutes to be monitored by a nurse.

Individuals will leave with their official CDC vaccination card and some free merchandise from the Health Department, Western Kentucky University in Owensboro, and the Chamber. The giveaway items are limited and available while supplies last.

Free transportation is available via GRITS when scheduled 24 hours in advance. Call 270-686-1651 for information. The downtown trolley also stops in front of the Convention Center every 20 minutes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For the trolley route and timetable, click here.

Any medical questions should be directed to the Health Department at (270) 686-7744. For directions or other questions, contact the Chamber at (270) 929-1860.
