Sammy J Studio will open its 2nd Season with “Petra and the Wolf” at the Whitesville Park. This intimate performance tells a fairytale through dance. Performed by young artists ranging in age from 3 to 12 years old. “Petra” features dance, acrobatics, and aerial performances. The cast consists of members of the local community and Sammy J Studio students. Part of the mission of Sammy J Studio is to provide arts access to everyone. To promote this mission, “Petra” is presented free of charge. All the audience needs is a lawn chair.
“Petra and the Wolf” cast includes: Anna Beyke, Lida Coomes, Elsie Coomes, Rhiannon Daniel, Jonah Gray, Nora Hamilton, Allison Hoover, Annalise Kassinger, Eva Morris, Delilah Mulholland, Macy Wyatt Sammy J Studio opened in January 2021. Owner Samantha Coomes through Sammy J Studio strives to bring quality, accessibility, and service to the community. Samantha has extensive training in ballet, aerial, tumbling, and jazz. Her choreography has wan won awards across the tri-state. Samantha has been active in the community dance and arts scene for the past twelve years.
Opening the performance will be Grace Millay and Carley Durcholz. They are performing a contemporary jazz piece titled “Let the good times roll”. Grace has been dancing for over 10 years. She began her training in 2011 at a local dance studio. She has furthered her dance education at conventions including Jazz on Tap (Atlanta, GA) and Giordano Dance Chicago (Chicago, IL). Ms. Carley is in the teacher training program here at SammyJ Studio. She is a Senior at DCHS. Carley has been tumbling and dancing since the age of 2. She loves working with children and is so excited to be teaching at SJS.
Contributing choreographer Mary Mulholland has had a life-long love of dance and the performing arts. Mary has been studying Ballet, Tap and Jazz since the age of 3. She currently works as a dance teacher and choreographer, as well as being the owner/photographer of Little Canary Photography.
