Armando Ortiz and his restaurant Real Hacienda are celebrating the Day of the Dead by allowing community members to contribute to an altar by temporarily dropping off photos of their loved ones who have passed away.

The altar will be at Real Hacienda located at 4820 Frederica Street. Ortiz said even if someone doesn’t want to participate, they are welcome to stop in and view the altar, plus stay for a meal.

Day of the Dead, or Dia De Los Muertos in Spanish, is a two-day holiday on November 1 and 2 where families pay respects and honor those who have passed.

Day of the Dead altars are made as a way of remembering and honoring deceased friends and family.

Ortiz said those who participate can come back to get their photo on November 3. All Ortiz asks is that the family write their name on the back of the photo to ensure it is returned properly.
