DCSO: Sunday night chase leads to felony drug arrest

Shai C. Sheriff, 23, was arrested Sunday night for multiple felony warrants after a vehicle chase on West Parrish Avenue, according to Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff now faces several charges including possession of 2 handguns and trafficking amounts of methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine and fentanyl.

Sheriff was located by DCSO and Kentucky State Police at the Five Star located at 3100 West Parrish Avenue. Sheriff then attempted to flee in his vehicle directed at law enforcement who were on foot.

Law enforcement was able to dodge the vehicle as the vehicle proceeded to flee.

DCSO states Sheriff’s vehicle became disabled and came to a stop in the 1700 block of Parrish Plaza Drive. The suspect began to flee on foot but was quickly taken into DCSO and KSP custody in a field west of Parrish Plaza Drive.

Sheriff was briefly taken into the custody of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for medical clearance and then was lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center, according to DCSO reports.

Sheriff is facing the following offenses:

  • Trafficking in controlled substances, 1st degree, 1st off – (> or = 10 D.U. drug unspecified (Enhancement))
  • Trafficking in controlled substances, 1st offense (carfentanil or fentanyl derivatives) (Enhancement)
  • Leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid or assistance
  • Failure of owner to maintain required ins/sec, 1st offense
  • Improper display of registration plates
  • Resisting arrest
  • Perscription cont sub not proper contain, 1st off
  • Failure to wear a seat belt
  • No operators-moped license
  • Criminal mischief, 1st degree
  • Wanton Endangerment – 1st degree
  • Murder – police officer (attempt)
  • Fleeing or evading police, 1st degree (motor vehicle)
  • Fleeing or evading police, 1st degree (on foot)
  • Possession of handgun by convicted felon
  • Trafficking in cont sub, 1st degree, 1st offense – (> or = 2GMS methamphetamine) (enhancement)
  • Trafficking in marijuana (less than 8 oz) 1st offense (enhancement)
  • Trafficking in cont sub 1st, degree, 1st offense – (> or = 4 GMS Cocaine) (Enhancement)

Sheriff was also charged with the following from an incident on March 12:

  • Failure to or improper signal
  • Fleeing or evading, 1st degree (motor vehicle)
  • Wanton endangerment – 1st degree-police officer
  • Wanton endangerment – 1st degree
  • False rep. of emergency – use of party line
  • Inadequate silence (muffler)
  • No operators-moped license

Sheriff was served on an unrelated complaint warrant regarding the following charges:

  • Recieving stolen property (firearm)
  • Fleeing or evading police, 1st degree (motor vehicle)
  • Possession of handgun by convicted felon

Sherrif was charged by Kentucky State Police with the following:

  • Wanton Endangerment – 1st degree-police officer
  • Criminal mischief – 1st degree
