Daviess County fell in the final minute to Greenwood, while Owensboro won on the road.
Greenwood 4, Daviess County 3
Tied 3-3 late in the second half, Greenwood scored on a header off a corner in the final 30 seconds to beat Daviess County 4-3. Jack Labhart started the scoring for the Panthers thanks to an assist from Taylor Hoak in the 11th minute. Trailing 3-1 late, Mack Burton assisted Hoak in the 76th minute and Ashton Boarman scored two minutes later to tie it. Noah Mason and Cooper Payne both split time in net, combining for five saves.
“We didn’t move the ball well at all tonight, and credit to Greenwood for their high pressure all over the field,” Daviess County Head Coach Dale Armistead said. “We didn’t handle it very well. We had a chance to go up 2-1 when Jake Johnson was fouled in the box, but failed to convert the penalty kick. A few minutes later, we conceded a goal off our free kick at midfield, and that changed the tone of the match. Greenwood then scored a third goal, and so I switched our formation up with about eight minutes to play, and we were able to score two quick goals and tie the game, only to give up a corner kick with 30 seconds left, and Greenwood scored a nice header to win the match.”
Owensboro 4, Ohio County 1
Denis Juma recorded three assists, and Peter Mbayo had a goal and an assist to lead Owensboro past Ohio County 4-1. Brian Payne and Jackson Sigler scored the teams other two goals.
“I thought we did a good job of getting looks at the goal. I think we had 20+ shots,” Owensboro Head Coach Ryan Haley said. “We left a lot at the table as far as finishing our chances, and their goalie made some really good saves as well. I liked the tempo we were attacking tonight. We were really going after the goal, but unfortunately, we didn’t get more than four in the back of the net. We seemed to control the pitch during the game.”
