Looking to bounce back, McLean County beat Caverna on the road Friday night 44-8 for their first win of the season. Behind their run game and dominant defense, the Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
After two rushing touchdowns and going 1/2 on two-point attempts, the Cougars led 14-0 halfway through the second quarter. A 49-yard rushing touchdown and a successful two-point attempt gave the Cougars a 22-0 lead entering halftime.
Starting with the ball in the second half, Trokoby Gill ripped off a 20-yard touchdown run, and Riley Walker scored on the two-point attempt to push the lead to 30-0. Later in the second half, Connor Ward broke free and scampered 40 yards for another score. Gill added the exclamation point on a four-yard touchdown run and Jojo Harrison scored on the two-point attempt. Caverna found the endzone late in the fourth quarter for their lone score of the game.
“I thought it was a good bounce-back win after last week,” McLean County Head Coach Zach Wagner said. “Several things clicked for us on offense, and we played more aggressively on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball this week.”
Next week, the Cougars travel to Grayson County.
