On a morning where the offense only had four hits, Hancock County had little answer for Livingston Central, falling to them 5-1 in the quarterfinals of the Kentucky All “A” Classic Statewide Softball Tournament.

“I thought we played some good ball at times,” Hancock County Head Coach Dwayne Wroe said. “We have been struggling with our hitting so far this year, but we had some girls hit it pretty well this weekend. We had a tough extra-inning loss to Somerset on Saturday that kept us from getting the one seed in our pool. That put us in the tougher side of the tournament bracket, but overall, it was a pretty good weekend for us.”

After stranding six Lady Cardinals runners through the first three innings, Hancock County was unable to escape another jam in the fourth. Bella Bryant struck out the leadoff batter, but a walk and a fielder’s choice culminated in back-to-back RBI singles.

Entering in relief, Gracie Gaynor pitched a scoreless fifth inning, but the Lady Cardinals added three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Trailing 5-0 and down to their final three outs, the Lady Hornets loaded the bases. Ryleigh French flew out, and Carolina Jones scored on an ensuing error, but Aubree Mosby flew out to end the game.

Despite the loss, the Lady Hornets are 16-8 on the year and return to action later tonight when they travel to Muhlenberg County.
