Ben Hawes Golf Course has opened registration for its summer PGA Jr. League. Kids aged 7-13 of any skill level are eligible to sign up with registration running through May 22nd. Athletes must be under 14 before August 1 due to the All Star portion.

The PGA Jr. League, which was created in 2010, is aimed at bridging juniors into the slightly more competitive and high school phases.

Practices have already begun and starting in June, Ben Hawes will play six matches against the Owensboro Country Club, rotating between the two courses. Matches will be groups of three playing a 2v2 scramble, rotating the third person in every few holes.

After the season ends, Ben Hawes and Owensboro Country Club will merge rosters to form an All-Star team, consisting of kids aged 10-13, which will compete in a sectional tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. The top two teams will advance to the Region Tournament, and while Owensboro has come close in the past, they are still looking for their first appearance.

“I am looking forward to it,” Charles Whelan, the Golf Course Manager for the City of Owensboro said. “I think both Owensboro County Club and Ben Hawes have some good players. We are looking forward to having some fun.”
