Traveling to Henderson for the Class 3A Region 1 track meet, Daviess County’s girls’ team placed second overall, while Owensboro was six points behind them. Both schools, alongside Apollo, will be sending multiple athletes from both their boys’ and girls’ teams to the upcoming State Championships in two weeks.
AHS: The Eagles finished fourth overall with a score of 60 points, while the E-Gals were sixth. In the relays, Apollo finished 3rd in both the boys and girls 4x800m relays, and the Eagles were fifth in the 4x800m relay.
“Our performance was outstanding yesterday, and our kids competed very well,” Apollo Head Coach Kris Crawford said. “We made some adjustments due to some injuries, which every team goes through, but I’m very proud of all our athletes. Hats off to our coaching staff for preparing our athletes for a very tough regional meet. We have some young athletes who are going to be very good for our program in the future, which will generate points. Hats off to our senior athletes on a great career and performances. Now we will get prepared for the state meet, and after the other regions are finished, see who else we get in to qualify. We have had a wonderful season, and I could not be any prouder.”

DCHS: The Lady Panthers held off Owensboro by six points to take second in the girls’ meet, while the Panthers placed fifth. Daviess County’s girls team took first in the 4x800m relay, second in the 4x200m and 4x100m relays, and third in the 4x400m relay, while the Panthers were fourth in the 4×400 m relay and fifth in the 4x800m relay.
“I think we performed pretty well yesterday. The girls got second, and the boys placed fifth,” Daviess County Head Coach Bob O’Brien said. “We had a lot of athletes qualify for state, and I think we will have four or five of our athletes who will make it at large. The weather was a factor yesterday. It was the warmest meet we’ve had all year, and it showed some of our performances. Our ladies performed well in almost all the events. Throws, jumps, and running. Our boys performed well, but not as well as I expected we have about five or six guys that will be going to state, and the performances will rank them pretty high for the state meet. All in all, it was a good day. Now the job is to prepare them for the state meet on May 23.”

OHS: The Lady Devils finished third overall, just six points behind Daviess County, and the boys’ team placed sixth. Owensboro’s girls’ team won the 4x100m, 4x200m, and 4x400m relays, and were fifth in the 4x800m relay, while the Red Devils were second in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, third in the 4x200m relay, and fourth in the 4x800m relay.
“We missed out on some points that I thought we should have gotten,” Owensboro boys Head Coach Drew Hall said. “Our coaching staff went into focusing more on our relays, feeling that if we make it to state, we could get some points there. Two of our four relays got an automatic qualification, and we are hoping that the other will get an at-large bid with our times. We will lose three seniors who competed this season, so we have a young team and are expecting big improvements next year. I’m proud of our guys because they competed their butts off.”
The top finishers for Owensboro included:

“I think the Lady Devils performed extremely well yesterday in the Regional Championship,” Owensboro girls’ Head Coach Matt Morris said. “They fought hard all day and it showed with the large number of qualifiers we have for the State Championships in two weeks. Obviously, the biggest story of the day was setting a new school record in the 4×100, which I believe also serves as the meet record.”
