The Opportunity Center of Owensboro, in partnership with Coalition Forward, will host an employer roundtable on Wednesday aimed at helping businesses learn more about inclusive hiring practices and workforce opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The free event is scheduled for June 17 from 9-11 a.m. at the Opportunity Center (1101 East Byers Avenue). Employers, workforce professionals, and community leaders are invited to attend.

The discussion will focus on the benefits of inclusive employment and provide businesses with practical information on hiring and supporting employees with disabilities.

Attendees will participate in four facilitated roundtable discussions covering autism in the workplace, the return on investment of inclusive hiring, real-life hiring experiences, and employer support resources.

The event will be moderated by Allyson Sanders, owner and operator of The Party Space Place + Bayside, with discussions led by local professionals and individuals with firsthand experience in workforce development and disability employment.

“Employment creates opportunities for independence, purpose, and community connection,” said Nick Tallent, vocational services director at the Opportunity Center. “This roundtable is an opportunity for employers to learn from one another, ask questions, and discover how inclusive hiring can strengthen both their workforce and our community.”

According to the Opportunity Center, its vocational services team works with individuals as young as 14, helping participants prepare for employment, secure jobs, and achieve long-term workplace success.

Organization officials said partnerships with local employers have helped expand opportunities for individuals with disabilities while providing businesses with access to a dedicated workforce.

A complimentary breakfast catered by Pinocchio’s Deli will be provided.

The event is open to employers, business leaders, human resource professionals, family members, advocates, and community partners. Registration is free and remains open.
