Apollo’s Cameron Easler will continue his bowling career after signing with Lindsey Wilson College during a ceremony at Diamond Lanes Midtown.
Easler, who has been bowling for 14 years, was a crucial member of the Eagles team for four years. Though he said it was a bittersweet day as his high school career was coming to a close, he is excited for college.
“I’m really the only person in my family to graduate high school and seek a higher education level,” he said. “I chose to go to Lindsey Wilson because the campus and the program seem like a really good fit for me. I also have other friends that go there and they’ve had really good reviews and feedback. It seems like a good place to continue my education and athletics.”
Head coach Kerrie Gatton said Easler brought a lot to the Apollo team.
“We’ve had him for the last four years and after losing four seniors last year, Cameron really had to step in with the leadership,” she said. “He provided a ton of leadership for the younger kids, helping them out. He was invaluable in that leadership role.”
Easler’s impact on his teammates both past and present was evident during his signing. More than half of the bowling alley was filled people supporting him as he took the next step in his bowling career.
Gatton said playing in a college is a big deal for any student athlete, but she said it’s very special for Easler.
“For Cameron to go to college, it’s a big deal for him and his family,” she said. “To bowl at Lindsey Wilson, he is going to have to step up They have a young team, and I really do think Cameron can get in there and hopefully get some varsity playing time next year. I think he can make an impact right away.”
