The Apollo football team got off to a slow start and was never able to recover Friday night, falling 43-21 on the road to Caldwell County.

The Tigers (2-0) built a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and continued to pull away as the Eagles (1-1) struggled to break through on offense.

Apollo finally got on the board when quarterback Damian Lovinsky scored on a 4-yard keeper, but Caldwell County responded with a pair of touchdown drives. The Tigers extended the lead to 43-10 with an interception returned 78 yards for a touchdown with 7 seconds to play in the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Wes Daugherty rushed for a touchdown and Lovinsky connected with Brandon Husk for another, but that’s as close as Apollo could get.

The Eagles will play again next week when they travel to Central Hardin (2-0).
