The Kentucky Wesleyan College women’s basketball were victorious in the opening round of the G-MAC Championship tournament on Tuesday night, downing the No. 7 seed Trevecca Nazarene 76-54 at The Owensboro Sportscenter.

The win sends the Panthers to the G-MAC Semifinals for the third straight year.  Wesleyan will now face the No. 6 seed Findlay Oilers, who upset the No. 3 seed and two-time defending G-MAC Champions Walsh Cavaliers on Tuesday by a score of 63-58.  Tip off against Findlay is set for 6:30 pm CT on Friday at host and No. 1 seed Cedarville.

The Panthers trailed by one midway thru the second quarter but a 9-0 run over the next four minutes catapulted Wesleyan to an 8-point lead.  Kaylee Clifford chipped in seven of the nine points to give Wesleyan a 31-24 lead at the break.

The Sportscenter heated up in the third frame as the Panthers outscored the Trojans 30-11.  Wesleyan erupted for an 11-0 run, their largest of the game, to go ahead by 30 which was also their largest lead of the game.  The fourth quarter was smooth sailing as Trevecca never pulled within 20 points.

Four Panthers scored in double figures in Jordyn Barga (15), Emma Johnson (13), Clifford (12) and Leah Richardson (11).  Barga fell two rebounds short of a double-double.  Kaylee Duncan paced the Panthers with four assists while Lily Miller grabbed two steals.

Wesleyan outrebounded the Trojans 46 to 26 on the night with 30 rebounds coming on the defensive side of the ball.  The Panthers led for over 31 minutes of action while scoring 18 points on the fastbreak.

This is a KWC Athletics press release.
