The Kentucky Wesleyan College football team suffered a 24-14 loss to Walsh on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers rolled into the halftime with a lead, but the Cavilers rallied late in the third to pick-up the win.

The Cavs (1-4) defense started the scoring in the game with a score late in the first quarter. The Panthers (0-4) were backed-up in their own territory when Chauncey Greer was sacked and the ball came loose for a quick pick-up and score.

Alijah McGhee aided in the Panthers tying the game as he forced a fumble with five minutes left in the opening half. Jalen Humphrey picked-up the loose ball and gave Wesleyan possession on the Walsh 40-yard line. Three plays later Greer found Colby Barnes past the Cavs’ defense for a 48-yard touchdown.

A blocked-punt on the ensuing drive gave the Panthers another chance with two minutes left in the half. Wesleyan went 20 yards on five plays, ending on Landon Newman’s eight-yard touchdown run, giving the Panthers a 14-7 lead.

The momentum switched in the second half, as the Cavilers took the opening kick-off 75 yards for a game-tying score. Later in the frame Walsh busted through the line of scrimmage for a 30-yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 21-14.

As drives stalled for both teams in the fourth, Walsh made it a two possession game with a 34-yard field goal with four minutes left in the game. Greer finished the game six for 14 passing for 119 yards and a touchdown. Newman ran for 70 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Jalen Humphrey finished with 13 tackles, one for a loss.

The Panthers will travel to Lake Erie to play the Storm on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 12PM CT.
