State championship softball and baseball returns to Owensboro with the Kentucky Legend 2A Championships on April 23-24 at the Kentucky Legend Fields at Jack C. Fisher Park and Jack Hicks Field at Shifley Park.  Eight softball teams and eight baseball teams will compete for the state championship in class 2A.

“What an honor it is for Owensboro to get to host state championship softball and baseball during the same weekend.  This wouldn’t be possible without the newly renovated Kentucky Legend Fields.  I also want to say thank you to Owensboro High School for allowing us to use their baseball field for our baseball championships,” said Jared Bratcher, Visit Owensboro Sports Marketing Director.

This will be the first year for the Kentucky Legend 2A Championships for softball and baseball.  Both were postponed last year due to COVID-19.

“We’re so excited to provide a platform for our athletes to compete at the highest level among their similar size schools.  We look forward to getting the games underway,” said Jeremy Tackett, 2A Championship Chair.

“Kentucky Legend is thoroughly excited about sponsoring the 2A Championships again this year.  We appreciate the opportunity to support local initiatives and drive tourism to our beautiful city. We look forward to a great weekend at the newly renovated Kentucky Legend Fields and Shifley Park,” said Brooklyn Maple, KY Legend Brand Manager.

The 2A State Championship softball game will be at Noon at the Kentucky Legend fields on April 24.  The 2A State Championship baseball game will be 6 p.m. at Shifley Park.  2A class schools are currently competing to represent their section at the state tournament.

“It’s going to be a huge sports weekend in Owensboro.  While the 2A championships are taking place, Owensboro is also hosting the All ’A’ state softball and baseball championships at the Kentucky Legend Fields at Jack C. Fisher and at Owensboro Catholic High School’s baseball field at Chautauqua Park,” added Bratcher.

Owensboro will also host the Kentucky Legend 2A volleyball and soccer championships later this year.  Basketball will take place in January of 2022.
