KWC soccer earns All-Conference accolades on men’s, women’s squads

Panthers claim G-MAC’s top postseason awards

Prior to the start of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship semifinal round from the campus of Ohio Dominican University, the 2020-21 all-conference team was announced on Wednesday evening. Julian Gonzalez and Lucas Daunhauer each earned a spot on the First Team while Zach Akin claimed the G-MAC’s top academic award.

A total of 33 student-athletes were voted by the league’s coaches to either the first, second or third team, and individual awards were also decided on the ballot for spring season accomplishments.

The Elite 23 Award winner went to senior Zach Akin, a History major with Secondary Education Certification. He has a 3.95 cumulative GPA and helped the Panthers into the conference tournament as the No. 7 seed. KWC’s resurgence into the playoffs was affirmed with a pair of first-team all-conference selections including forward Julian Gonzalez and keeper Lucas Daunhauer as both were conference players of the week at some point this season.

Gonzalez ranks third in the nation in goals this season. In nine games, Gonzalez scored nine times, a total that ranked second in the G-MAC this season. He also ranked third in the league in points and points per game. Only Juan Hoyos from Ohio Valley scored more goals than Gonzalez in conference play this season.

Daunhauer ranked second in the conference with 55 saves this season. The junior keeper finished the season playing in eight matches while recording two shut-outs. He led the league in saves per game. Duanhauer posted a 3-2-2 record this season as the Panthers earned a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2016.

The Panthers finished the season 3-4-2.

G-MAC recognizes 3 KWC women on All-Conference list

Prior to the start of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship semifinal round from the campus of Ohio Dominican University, the 2020-21 all-conference team was announced on Wednesday afternoon. Three members of the Kentucky Wesleyan women’s soccer team earn All-GMAC honors. Madisyn Hunt earned Second Team honors while Natalie and Chloe Hinchcliffe each were named to the Third Team.

 A total of 33 student-athletes were voted by the league’s coaches to either the first, second or third team, and individual awards were also decided on the ballot for spring season accomplishments.

Hunt, the 2019 G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year, finished third in the G-MAC in points per game. She finished the season with three goals, two assists and eight points. She also ranked tied for fifth in the league in assists and ninth overall in points.

Chloe Hinchcliffe also finished the season with eight points on three goals and two assists. Hinchcliffe took 14 shots this season six being on goal.

Natalie Hinchcliffe finished with one goal and two assists this season. Both her and Chloe helped organize the Panthers’ offensive attack this season.

The Panthers finished the spring 2-5-1 overall.
