District softball approaches with pair of games at Owensboro Catholic High School

Daviess County, Owensboro, Apollo and Owensboro Catholic will look to advance to the 9th District Championship in their respective matchups today at OCHS.

No. 1 Daviess County (26-6) vs. No. 4 Owensboro (8-18)

Daviess County wrapped up the season winning eight of their last 10, closing out the season with a record of 26-6 and the No. 1 seed.

The Lady Panthers have a tag-team of pitchers that have been dealing all season long, both owning an ERA below 2.00.

Raylee Roby has 138 strikeouts on the season, holding a record of 11-3 while starting 16 games on the season. Greysyne Whiteker has a record of 15-3, notching 90 strikeouts over the course of 16 starts (24 total appearances).

Anchors in their offense have given the two prolific pitchers plenty of run support, with a plethora of home runs. Those have come from Miller Roberts and Jessie Daniels, both hitting 11 each this season.

The pair also sit in the top three on the team in average with Roberts hitting .378, Daniels hitting .457, while Abby Newman leads the team with an impressive .505 batting average.

Meanwhile, Owensboro has come into this game winners in three of their last five, with a 7-1 loss to Trinity (Whitesville) being the final game of the regular season.

The Lady Devils have struggled immensely behind the mound, with all four pitchers owning an ERA above six. However, they have seven players hitting above .300 on the roster with three hitting over .400.

The two met once in the regular seaosn in which Daviess County came away with a 5-0 win over the Red Devils.

Now, the two will have a little more on the line as they hope for a trip to the 9th District Championship.

No. 2 Owensboro Catholic (19-12) v. No. 3 Apollo (12-16)

Time: 7 p.m.

Owensboro Catholic comes into this postseason bout on a two-game losing streak, finishing the regular season with a record of 19-12.

Alexis Hatchett, Brooke Hamilton and Hadley Phelps have handled the bulk of the pitching this season for the Lady Aces.

Phelps boasts an ERA of 2.86 and has started 14 games in the circle this season, while Hamilton and Hatchett started nine and eight games and toted a 3.26 ERA and a 3.71 ERA respectively. Catholic’s lineup has also done plenty of damage on the season, with six players batting above .300

Apollo on the other hand, was on a roll to close the season winning eight of their last 10 games. That was until their next game which closed out the regular season was a 10-0 loss at the hands of Henderson High School, given them a record of 12-16 overall.

Apollo has had some struggles at the mound during the regular season, with all pitchers on the roster owning an ERA of five or above. However, their offense has been red hot, with nine players hitting over .300.

The two teams met twice in the regular season with Owensboro Catholic coming out on top 8-5 and 12-3 over the E-gals.

Apollo will look to see if the third time is the charm when they try to upset Owensboro Catholic in this two-three matchup, in hopes of clinching a spot in the 9th District Championship.
