A back-and-forth affair between Trinity and Edmonson County softball ended with the Lady Raiders heading to the 12th District Tournament final after an 8-6 win in Whitesville.

Trinity took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning thanks to an error by Edmonson County, but the Lady Cats bounced back with runs in the second and fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Fielding blunders came back to bite Edmonson again in the top of the fifth, with one allowing the Lady Raiders to tie the game up at three before Cassidy Morris gave them the lead with a sacrifice fly. Edmonson finished with five errors on the day.

The Lady Cats answered in the bottom of the sixth, as a costly error on a bunt led to another tie in the battle between the two. Edmonson took the lead shortly after with an RBI single from Emma White and a sacrifice fly from Hallie Cassady to take a 5-3 lead going into the seventh.

However, Trinity wouldn’t go down without a fight, as they tacked on two runs courtesy of a double by Katherine Hibbit and shut down the Lady Cats one, two, three, to send it into extra innings.

With two outs, Hibbit struck again with an RBI triple, followed by an error and a double that shot the Lady Raiders out in front 8-5 going into the bottom of the eighth.

Edmonson was able to load the bases with its first three batters of the inning, but Trinity was able to work out of the bases-loaded jam giving up just one run and walking away with an 8-6 win.

The Lady Raiders now head to the 12th District Tournament final to take on Butler County.
