Owensboro Football will be taking on Fairdale this Friday in the third round of the KHSAA playoffs, looking to grab a regional title and extend their chances at a state championship.

The Red Devils are coming off a hard fought win against Greenwood on Friday night, where they defeated the Gators 27-21.

Kenyatta Carbon led the Red Devils in that matchup, rushing for 138 yards and a touchdown. Head coach Jay Fallin knows his squad will face another tough task this week.

“This is a Regional Final, so the expectations are that it is going to be a battle,” Fallin said. “Nobody advances to this point unless they are a great team. We are excited to have the opportunity to compete against a great team in a 3rd round playoff game.

The Fairdale Bulldogs are 11-1 on the season and have won ten straight games in a row. The Bulldogs have been led this season by running back tandem Darnel Herzog and Yanni Pearson. Herzog has tallied 848 yards and ten touchdowns on the season, while his running mate has put up 717 yards and nine scores.

“Fairdale is a very athletic, senior-laden squad with postseason experience,” Fallin said. “They are a great team with no real weaknesses.”

The Red Devils and Bulldogs were set to face each other in the playoffs in 2020, but the game was canceled due to Covid-19. Coach Fallin understands the level of preparedness his team will have to reach when they finally get to face off with the Bulldogs.

“We must execute in all three phases of the game and understand the consistent, relentless effort it takes to win in the late postseason,” Fallin said.

The Bulldogs will travel to Rash Stadium on Friday night to face the Red Devils at 6 p.m.

“They are a great team top to bottom,” Fallin said. “We will need to be ready to compete hard for 48 minutes.”
