The boys 9th District Tournament opens up play tonight, starting with the No. 1 seed Owensboro Catholic and No. 4 seed Apollo at 7 p.m. Here’s what you need to know about these two teams heading into tonight.

The Aces have had an incredible season up to this point, going 25-4 overall and 6-0 in district play to sit atop the 9th District standings. Meanwhile Apollo sits at 5-22 overall, while going winless in district play at 0-6.

Owensboro Catholic swept the regular season series between the two teams, winning 61-46 on Dec. 9 and 72-31 on Jan. 20. The Aces fullcourt pressure makes them a constant threat on both sides of the ball, with Griffith (21.2 ppg), Gray (13.0 ppg), sophomore Luke Beickman (9.6 ppg) and junior Tutt Carrico (9.0 ppg) leading the charge on offense.

Having already made history multiple times this season—including senior Brian Griffith as the new all-time leading scorer, senior Parker Gray with the single-game threes made record and Head Coach Tim Riley becoming the all-time wins leader at OCHS—the Aces are looking to add onto their historic season with a long postseason run that starts against Apollo tonight.

The Eagles on the other hand are looking to carry momentum from the win in their regular season finale over Muhlenberg County (58-56) into the first round of the postseason, as they will most likely be looking to senior Zjhan Tutt (14.6 ppg), sophomore Kobe Kelly (9.5 ppg) and senior Donte Dixon (7.9 ppg) to lead the way offensively.
