Owensboro Catholic’s defense had the Lady Panthers number throughout the night, as a strong team effort helped them stay undefeated in district play with a 52-38 win on the road.

It took two minutes before Daviess County and the Lady Aces got on the board, with the Lady Panthers taking the early 6-2 lead. However, a 5-0 run put Owensboro Catholic back out in front and eventually went into the second up 11-10.

Daviess County wasn’t able to turn things around offensively either, only able to get one point in the second quarter from the charity stripe with 11.0 seconds to go thanks to senior Madison Spurrier. And while Lady Aces were having issues scoring themselves though, they still found themselves with a double-digit lead of 24-11 heading into halftime.

Owensboro Catholic kept its foot on the gas coming out of the locker room as well, going on a 13-0 run to have a 37-14 lead with 2:45 left in the third quarter. The Lady Panthers were able to turn things around offensively, but still found themselves trailing 42-23 heading into the fourth.

Senior Adylan Ayer (seven) and sophomore Zoey Beehn (six) tried to help Daviess County continue to claw back towards a win, but it was too little too late as the Lady Aces claimed a 52-38 win.

Ayer finished the night leading all scorers with 16 points for the Lady Panthers, while Beehn (nine) was the only other player to finish with more than five points for the team in the loss. Sophomore Aubrey Randolph led Owensboro Catholic in the win with 13 points, as she led a balanced attack that included 11 points from junior Hailee Johnson and eight points each from seniors Maddie Hayden and Lexie Keelin.

The Lady Aces now sit at 18-5 overall and 5-0 in district play, with a chance to finish the regular season undefeated in the 9th District with a win against Owensboro next week. But first Owensboro Catholic has a home matchup with 3rd Region foe Meade County on Monday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.

Daviess County on the other hand falls to 11-14 overall and 1-4 in district play, hoping to bounce back in its home game against Madisonville-North Hopkins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7. They’ll follow up that contest with their final regular season district game of the year on Friday, Feb. 10, taking on Apollo 5:30 p.m. at home.
