The Lady Devils weren’t able to silence Henderson County’s bats on Thursday, while Trinity (Whitesville) and Daviess County got dominant pitching performances in their respective wins against Breckinridge and Greenwood.

Owensboro vs Henderson County

The Lady Devils couldn’t slow down Henderson County on Thursday night, falling on the road 11-7 thanks to some struggles in the circle.

The Lady Colonels struck first in the game, taking advantage of an Owensboro error the following at-bat to get a two-run shot from junior Taylor Troutman and a 2-0 lead heading into the second inning. They didn’t take their foot off the gas either, as a walk and a single led to an RBI single for senior JaMaya Byron and a three-run homer to right by senior Anna Willett to take a 6-0 lead into the third.

Henderson County got one more in the bottom of the third before the Lady Devils got on the board, but three walks led to a bases-clearing double by sophomore Ellington Embry to cut the deficit to 7-3 after the top of the fourth.

But Owensboro then went stagnant, failing to score a run until they scored four in the top of the seventh. However, the Lady Devils had surrendered one in the bottom of the fourth and three in the bottom of the sixth, nullifying their production and ultimately falling to Henderson County 11-7.

Owensboro didn’t have their best stuff in the circle on Thursday, as sophomore Kirsten Tindle and senior K’Asia Palmer allowed 10 earned runs on a combined 13 hits, seven walks while earning two strikeouts. Embry led the way at the plate with three RBIs, while junior Emmi Connor and sophomore Alyssa Rhineburger added two each.

The Lady Devils fall to 1-4 overall with their second straight loss, as they will look to bounce back against McLean County in their third straight road game on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Trinity (Whitesville) vs Breckinridge County

The Lady Raiders grabbed the lead early on Thursday night and never looked back, snapping a two-game losing streak with a narrow 4-3 victory over Breckinridge County.

Trinity (Whitesville) got right to work in the bottom of the first, as a leadoff single from sophomore Madison McDaniel and a one-out walk led to a sacrifice fly by seventh grader Sophie Hatfield to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Raiders picked up right where they left off in the bottom of the second, as an error led to four two-out singles—with the second by McDaniel plating a run and the third from sophomore Sarah Payne bringing in two to give them a 4-0 lead heading into the third. Senior Allie Graham went on to give up a run in the top of the third and two in the top of the fifth, but still picked up the win having allowed seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Hatfield came in and sealed the deal in a big spot for the seventh grader, allowing just one hit and earning a strikeout in the final two innings to get the save and claim the 4-3 win for Trinity. Hatfield was also a leader at the plate with her RBI, joining Sarah Payne and McDaniel as the only players with RBIs.

The Lady Raiders sit at 3-4 overall now, looking to keep things rolling in a home district matchup with Edmonson County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Daviess County vs Greenwood

Some fireworks at the plate from her teammates and a strong showing in the circle by senior Raylee Roby helped the Lady Panthers win their season opener against Greenwood 4-1.

The Lady Gators struck first on Thursday night, getting a run in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Lady Panthers quickly responded, getting a run in each of the next two innings to take a 2-1 lead.

Roby handled business the rest of the way, as Daviess County got two more runs in the top of the sixth and the senior righty dished out 12 strikeouts to secure the 4-1 win. Senior Jessie Daniels and freshman Callie Smith led the way at the plate, as the senior righty hit a pair of home runs and Smith hit a solo shot in the win.

The Lady Panthers get right back to action after their first win on Friday, as they are set to take on Gordonsville, Tennessee, at 8 p.m. in their first game of the Southern Warrior Classic.
