2023 OT Boys Basketball Player of the Year: Brian Griffith

In his senior season Owensboro Catholic’s Brian Griffith continued to lead the Aces towards success, etching his name in the record books and having the most complete season of his career en route to being name the Owensboro Times 2023 Boy’s Basketball Player of the Year.

The senior point guard had his hand all over Owensboro Catholic’s game on both ends of the floor, averaging 20.8 ppg on a 43.6% clip from the field and 37.2% from deep, going along his 3.7 rpg while leading the team in steals, made free throws and percentage at 70.9% and assists. 

Griffith helped the Aces finish with an overall record of 28-6, finishing the regular season undefeated in district play before being runner-up in the 9th District and 3rd Region Championship. He also solidified his name atop Owensboro Catholic’s all-time scoring list, passing James ‘Putney’ McNary and his 1,937 points.

While the season might not have ended the way he wanted, Brian had an absolute blast with a group of players and coaches that he’ll always cherish

“Some of my favorite moments was during all the bonding we built,” Griffith said. “And the times coach Riley would talk about his jokes.”

Griffith said that coming into this year studying the game more helped him grow as a player, something that allowed him to find even more success in his final season with the Aces.

Brian went on to say that he’s beyond thankful for all of those that made an impact on his and basketball and personal life, noting that his time with Owensboro Catholic was a true blessing for him.

“It feels good to leave such a huge mark on the program there,” Griffith said. “I’m just thankful for God allowing me to do the things I did there. It means a lot to me. Obviously I could’ve transferred and stuff, but it felt like home there. It was really just wanting a better life for myself and not trying to go down the same route everyone around me did.”
