Steady offense led Daviess County to its first district win of the season on Tuesday, getting a strong start from sophomore Logan Mewes as well en route to the 7-2 road win over the Aces.

The Panthers put together the first scoring threat of the day in the second inning, as a leadoff double from senior Jackson Loucks, a sac bunt and a one-out walk led to a sac fly from senior Xander Brubaker and a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the second. Daviess County added onto its lead in the the top of the third after another scoreless inning from Mewes, as a pair of walks and a sac bunt and a walk led to a two-run single by Loucks to make it a 3-0 game.

Owensboro Catholic went on to grab two runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-out error and then base knock by senior Jamison Wall, but it was too little too late as the Panthers scored four runs over the last three innings of play to secure the 7-2 win.

Mewes picked up the win in his six-inning start, allowing two unearned runs on four hits and two walks while getting one strikeout. Junior Lake Wilson handled the lone inning of relief, earning a strikeout.

Loucks and Brubaker led Daviess County with a pair of RBIs each, while senior Cason Troutman, Huskisson and sophomore Lucas Ward had one each. The Panthers improve to 10-8 overall and 1-3 in district play with the win, looking to take this momentum into a home matchup with Hancock County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Wall took the loss for the Aces in his four-inning start, allowing four earned runs on four hits and five walks while striking out two. Sophomore Luke Quinn pitched two innings of relief and allowed two earned runs on three hits and a walk, while Thomas Eyre walked a pair and allowed one earned run on one hit.

Wall led the way at the plate with two of Owensboro Catholic’s four hits in the contest, also tallying their lone RBI of the game. The Aces fall to 15-7 overall and 3-1 in district play with the loss, as they’ll look to bounce back in another district matchup with Apollo at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
