The Lady Devils completed their home district game that was postponed earlier this season due to an injury, with Owensboro Catholic completing a 7-5 comeback win despite trailing from the start of play.

Owensboro had gotten off to a hot start before the game was postponed, as sophomore Hessi Johnson had delivered a three-run home run to give them a 3-1 lead going into the third after the Lady Aces got a run on an error in the top of the second.

But it was Owensboro Catholic who had the bats going on Wednesday, getting a leadoff triple from senior Bailey Hamilton and a walk from senior Brooke Hamilton to give them a strong start to the fourth. An RBI groundout from sophomore Tyranda Stuart followed, with senior Kira Edwards singling the following at-bat before an error allowed a run to score and even things up at 3-3.

A sacrifice fly and then a pair of Lady Devils errors allowed three more runs to score, helping the Lady Aces jump out to a 6-3 lead going into the fifth. Owensboro kept trying to chip away at the lead though, getting a sacrifice fly from junior Sophie Moorman in the bottom of the fifth and an RBI single from sophomore Addison Hill in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 6-5 game.

It would be too little too late for the Lady Devils though, as they wouldn’t score again while Bailey Hamilton delivered an RBI single in the top of the seventh in what would be the final blow of the 7-5 win.

Bailey led the way at the plate for Owensboro Catholic with a pair of hits and an RBI on the day, while Stuart and senior Abbie Dukate also had an RBI each. Brooke Hamilton picked up the win in her complete-game effort, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out nine.

The Lady Aces move to 10-7 and 3-2 in district play with the win, now turning their focus to the All A Classic this weekend, starting with a 10 a.m. matchup with Bethlehem on Saturday.

Owensboro on the other hand falls to 7-15 and 0-4 in district play with the loss, as Johnson, Moorman and Hill were the only players to record RBIs despite out-hitting Owensboro Catholic eight to four in the game. Senior K’Asia Palmer took the loss in her complete game effort, allowing two earned runs on four hits and five walks, while striking out two in the process.

The Lady Devils don’t have much time to dwell on this one though, as they are faced with another district opponent in Daviess County for the second time this season at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
