The Lady Devils and Lady Raiders capped off the week with a Saturday tournament each, going 2-1 in their respective matchups while the E-gals won on offensive showdown with Christian County.

Owensboro vs Henderson County, Calloway County, Lyon County

The Lady Devils couldn’t muster up enough offense in their first game on Saturday, as Henderson County topped them in a shutout before Owensboro bounced back with offensive wins against Calloway County and Lyon County.

The Lady Colonels wasted no time getting going offensively, as a leadoff single turned into an RBI triple for senior Anna Willett, an RBI single for junior Taylor Troutman and a two-out RBI triple from senior JaMaya Byrum to take a 3-0 lead into the top of the second. This came back to bite Owensboro as well, as they were never able to get going at the plate and grabbed just one hit—courtesy of senior K’Asia Palmer—in the 4-0 loss.

Sophomore Kirsten Tindle tossed all five innings for the Lady Devils, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

Owensboro took on the Lakers of Calloway County next, fending off a late comeback to grab a 12-10 win in five innings.

The Lady Devils got right to work at the plate, grabbing a run in each of the first four innings, helping them jump out to a 12-4 lead heading into the fifth. A barrage of hits for the Lakers allowed them to grab five runs in the fifth though, climbing their way back into the game—if not for Tindle coming and striking out two in the inning for the save in the 12-10 win.

Palmer and junior Sophie Moorman led the way at the plate against Calloway County, grabbing three RBIs each while sophomores Addison Hill and Ellington Embry had two each and junior Ashleigh Howard chipping in one.

The Lady Devils stayed hot in their contest with Warren East as well totaling 16 hits in the 14-8 win in their final game of the Muhlenberg County Lady Mustang Stampede.

Tindle led the way at the plate against Warren East with four RBIs, while Howard followed with three, Palmer and Moorman followed with a pair each and sophomore Hessi Johnson and junior Emmi Connor both chipped in one each.

Palmer picked up the win in her 3 ⅓ innings start in the circle after the rough relief appearance against the Lakers, allowing five earned runs—eight total—on nine hits and a walk to go along with two strikeouts.

The Lady Devils sit at 6-14 after the 2-1 Saturday, now looking ahead to a home matchup with Union County at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25.

Trinity (Whitesville) vs Bowling Green, Warren East, Lyon County

The Lady Raiders were able to grab a big comeback win on Saturday, topping Bowling Green 10-8 on the road thanks to some late offense. They split the remaining games, struggling to score in a loss to Warren East and then hanging on for a one-run win over Lyon County.

Trinity (Whitesville) got on the board in the top of the first with an RBI double from sophomore Sarah Payne, but still found themselves trailing 4-1 going into the third thanks to an error and multiple hits for the Lady Purples. The Lady Raiders fought right back though, getting a leadoff home run from sophomore Madison McDaniel, a triple from Sarah Payne and an RBI groundout from senior Abby Payne to make it a 4-3 game heading into the bottom of the third.

But Bowling Green continued to have the right answer at the plate, grabbing three more runs and getting back out in front at 7-3. Trinity didn’t back down though, as senior Allie Graham held the Lady Purples to one run the rest of the way, while helping chip in during a seven-run fifth and sixth inning to help grab a 10-8 win on the road.

Graham picked up the win after five innings of relief, allowing three earned runs—four total—on six hits, while walking none and striking out two. Senior Allie Barnett had pitched the first inning of the game, allowing three earned runs—four total—on four hits.

Abby Payne led the way at the plate with three RBIs on the day, while Graham had a pair and Sarah Payne, McDaniel and seventh grader Sophie Hatfield all had one each.

That same offensive prowess was non-existent in their game against Warren East though, tallying just three hits in a 15-1 loss. Sarah and Abby Payne joined Barnett as the only ones with hits in the contest, while the Lady Raiders gave up 13 earned runs on 15 hits and five walks in the circle.

They were able to flip the switch at the plate against Lyon County though, having a strong final inning of play to sneak away with a 10-9 Lady Raiders win.

Trinity grabbed six runs in the first three innings of play, but the Lady Lyons quickly responded with four in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fourth to cut it to a 6-5 deficit.

The Lady Raiders responded with four in the bottom of the fifth—which Lyon County matched—giving them a slight edge and leading to the 10-9 win. Abby Payne led the way with a pair of RBIs, while Sarah Payne, seventh grader Sophie Hatfield, junior Georgia Howard and seventh grader Ella Morris all had one each. Barnett picked up the win in her 3 ⅓ innings start, allowing one earned run—five total—on three hits and one strikeout, while Graham allowed four earned runs on six hits in the final 1 ⅔ innings for the save.

Trinity improves to 11-13 overall with the 2-1 Saturday, now looking to carry some momentum into a home matchup with Grayson County at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25.

Apollo vs Christian County

It was raining hits for the E-gals on the road on Saturday, as they were on fire in an offensive showcase that led to an 11-7 win over Christian County.

The Lady Colonels got off to a solid start at the plate, scoring a run in each of the first three innings—more importantly holding an early 4-2 lead heading into the third. Christian County went on to grab two more in the bottom of the third, but not before Apollo had gotten four runs thanks to a three-run homer from freshman Liza Paige and an RBI single from senior Emmie Bullington—leading to the 6-6 tie.

The E-gals stayed hot though, getting a two-out RBI single from Page in the top of the fourth and a two-run home run from junior Mallory Velotta in the top of the fifth to take a 9-6 lead into the sixth. Christian County got one more run in the bottom of the sixth, but Apollo put an exclamation point on the 11-7 win with a pair of RBI hits from senior Morgan Julian and freshman Arianna Ramirez to close out the contest.

Bullington pitched the first six innings for Apollo and picked up the win, allowing five earned runs—seven total—on nine hits, four walks and four strikeouts. Freshman Taylor Clark handled the last inning, tossing a 1-2-3 outing to earn the save.

Bullington also finished with three RBIs behind Page’s team-leading four, while Velotta had a pair and Julian and Ramirez had one each. The E-gals improve to 8-8 overall with the win, now looking to keep things rolling in a road contest with South Spencer at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
