The Lady Panthers were clicking on all cylinders on Sunday, as senior Raylee Roby and freshman Sophia Cain held Breckinridge County scoreless to grab a 10-0 win and advance to the 3rd Region Semifinals.
A leadoff double from sophomore Sadie Morris helped get things going for Daviess County, as freshman Annie Newman started a two-out rally with a ground ball to short that turned into an error and allowed her to reach second and give them a 1-0 lead. The Lady Panthers got an RBI double from freshman Callie Smith and RBI single from senior Kaitlyn Hill shortly after, but the inning came to a close with limited damage—with junior Makayla Rowan striking out with the bases loaded to leave things at 3-0 heading into the second.
It wasn’t until the third inning that the Lady Tigers posed a true scoring threat, as a pair of two-out singles following back-to-back strikeouts put runners on the corners. Senior Raylee Roby was able to settle back in though, striking out the following batter to end the inning with Daviess County still leading 3-0 going into the bottom of the third.
Roby was instrumental in the Lady Panthers win, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out 10 in 4 ⅔ innings. Her offense returned the favor as well, getting a sac fly from senior Kaityln Hill in the bottom of the third and four more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
An RBI double from Newman followed in the fifth, with a pair of errors in the bottom of the sixth leading to the final run of a 10-0 win that will send Daviess County to the 3rd Region Semifinals. Cain threw a perfect inning and a third of relief, while Newman, Smith and Hill all had a pair of RBIs and Daniels, Beckwith and Hamilton all had one.
The Lady Panthers return to action on Tuesday for the semifinals, as they are set to take on Butler County at 6 p.m. at Grayson County High School.
