Owensboro Catholic and Daviess County baseball were unable to muster up enough offense on Thursday, falling to Bowling Green on the road and Grayson County at home respectively.

Owensboro Catholic vs Bowling Green

A monstrous offensive showing in the bottom of the first from Bowling Green set the tone for the game early on Thursday, as the Aces could never claw back and lost 11-5 on the road.

Owensboro Catholic got off to a solid start in the top of the first, getting an RBI groundout from senior Grant Parson to make it a 1-0 game following a leadoff double from sophomore Brady Atwell and a sacrifice bunt from sophomore Parker Heistand. But the Purples wasted no time with a response, quickly grabbing a 2-1 lead after back-to-back singles and a triple.

Things spiraled from there, as an error, a number of walks and a barrage of hits allowed Bowling Green to score eight more and take a 10-1 lead into the second inning. Freshman Barrett Evans pitched two-thirds of the inning, allowing three earned runs—ten total—on six hits and three walks, while junior Houston Flynn pitched a third of the inning and allowed no runs on two hits.

Senior Jamison Wall followed with five innings of relief, allowing just one earned run on seven hits and three walks. But the Aces could only get up to five runs the remainder of the game, leading to the 11-5 loss.

Parson led the way at the plate with a pair of RBIs, while Heistand and Evans also chipped in one each. Owensboro Catholic falls to 16-12 overall with the loss, as they now look to snap their four-game losing streak in the CATS Classic against South Warren and Franklin-Simpson at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Daviess County vs Grayson County

The Panthers came up short in a back-and-forth affair on Thursday, as some late offense led to a 4-2 home loss to Grayson County.

The Cougars were in charge early on, getting a two-out RBI single in the first and a one-out RBI single in the second to make it a 2-0 game. They nearly built onto their lead in the top of the fourth with the bases loaded with two down, but senior Jackson Beckwith earned a fly out to work out of the jam.

The very next inning Daviess County swung momentum their way a bit, getting a leadoff double by junior Lake Wilson and a home run from senior Layton Huskisson the following at-bat to knot things up at 2-2. But a two-out single gave two more runs right back to Grayson County in the top of the fifth, reclaiming a 4-2 lead.

The Panthers were able to get three hits the rest of the way, but they were unable to plate any runs and ultimately lost 4-2 at home. Beckwith took the loss in his 4 ⅔ innings start, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out one.

Senior Luke Blue pitched the next two innings and gave up no runs on a hit and a walk while striking out one, while Huskisson was the only player to record RBIs with his two-run home run.

Daviess County falls to 13-10 overall with the loss, as they now look to top Owensboro in the regular season district finale at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
