Apollo and Owensboro grabbed wins in their respective matchups on Tuesday, while the Panthers fell short in an offensive showdown with Henderson County.

Daviess County vs Henderson County

It was too little too late for the Panthers on Tuesday, as their comeback attempt fell just short in a 9-8 home loss to Henderson County.

Daviess County had control of the game early on, as a pair of walks and a single from senior Decker Renfrow loaded the bases with no out in the bottom of the first. A run would score on a sacrifice fly from senior Layton Huskisson and senior Jackson Loucks—with the latter turning into an inning-ending double play that sent the Panthers into the second with a 2-0 lead.

The Colonels responded swiftly though, grabbing four in the top of the second and a pair in the top of the third that gave them a 6-2 lead going into the fourth. The two teams would trade runs back and forth for the next few innings, but it was a run in the top of the seventh that had Henderson County holding on to a 9-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

A walk, catcher’s interference and another walk had the bases loaded with two down for Daviess County, scoring one on a wild pitch and two on a single from junior Carter Nichols to make it 9-8. But sophomore Lucas Ward struck out the following at-bat after working the count full, thus resulting in the 9-8 loss.

Freshman Logan Mewes took the loss in his 3 ⅓ innings start, allowing seven earned runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out one. Huskisson and Nichols led the way at the plate with a pair of RBIs, while Loucks and sophomore Sean Page both had one each.

Daviess County falls to 13-13 overall, as they’ll now look to snap their three-game losing streak against Butler County at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Owensboro vs Edmonson County

The Red Devils came out on top in a pitcher’s duel on Tuesday, as sophomore Cayden Ray and senior Connor Hallmark led the way in a 2-0 win over Edmonson County.

It was a game that runs were hard to come by, with the third inning being the only time someone crossed home plate. Owensboro struck first in the bottom of the third, getting a pair of runs on a two-out single from freshman Evan Hampton.

From there the Red Devils never looked back, as Ray pitched six scoreless innings—striking out 10 while allowing three hits and two walks—while Hallmark struck out one while earning the save in the 2-0 home win.

Owensboro improved to 14-10 overall with its sixth straight win, as they now look ahead to a strong finish in their regular season finale against McLean County at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Apollo vs Hancock County

Steady offense did the trick for Apollo on Tuesday, as they were able to grab a 6-1 home win over Hancock County.

It was the Eagles who set the tone for the game early, grabbing a run in the bottom of the first on a sac fly by senior Aiden Wells and two more in the bottom of the second thanks to a two-out home run from junior Will Strode. The Hornets proceeded to get one back in the top of the third, but Apollo grabbed three more runs en route to the 6-1 win.

While leading the way at the plate with a pair of RBIs, Strode also struck out six in six innings, while allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks. Meanwhile, Wells, sophomore Garrett Lanham and senior Hayden Cash all had an RBI each, and junior Easton Blandford closed out the win on the mound.

The Eagles improved to 17-11 overall with the win, as they’ll now look to keep things rolling against Henderson County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
