Struggles in the field and at the plate kept the Lady Devils from beating Daviess County the second time around this season, falling 9-2 on the road on Thursday.

Some early fireworks had the Lady Panthers grabbing some early momentum, as sophomore Sadie Morris sent a leadoff homer to left and after an error senior Jessie Daniels homered to right to take a 3-0 lead into the second. Daviess County picked up right where they left off in the bottom of the third as well, as a leadoff double by freshman Annie Newman led to an RBI single from freshman Callie Smith.

Later in the inning junior Makayla Rowan delivered a two-out RBI single, with an error the very next at-bat plating another run to give the Lady Panthers a 6-0 lead heading into the fourth. After grabbing three more runs in the fourth, Owensboro was only able to earn a two-home run from sophomore Ellington Embry in the top of the seventh and eventually lost to Daviess County 9-2 on the road.

Senior Raylee Roby had a strong outing against the Lady Devils, allowing one earned run on three hits and a walk while striking out nine in the win. Daniels led the way at the plate with a pair of RBIs, while Smith, senior Kaydence Hamilton, Morris, Rowan and sophomore Danielle Beckwith all had one each.

Daviess County improves to 21-2 overall and finishes the regular season 6-0 in district play, now owning a 12-game winning streak heading into a home doubleheader with McCracken County at noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Owensboro on the other hand fell to 8-17 overall and 0-6 in district play with the loss, tallying just three hits and making four errors in the loss. Senior K’Asia Palmer pitched the first inning in her start, allowing two earned runs—three total—on three hits and two walks, while sophomore Kirsten Tindle pitched the next three and allowing two earned runs—six total—on six hits.

Sophomore Alyssa Rhineburger pitched the final two innings of play, surrendering just two hits. The Lady Devils will look to turn things around on Friday, as they are set to host Butler County at 6 p.m.
