The E-gals, Lady Aces and Lady Devils fell short on Wednesday, falling in their respective matchups against Breckinridge County, South Warren and Grayson County.

Apollo vs Breckinridge County

Breckinridge County caught fire offensively late on Wednesday, as a monstrous bottom of the sixth led to a 10-6 loss for the E-gals on the road.

Going into the sixth Apollo had control of the game, as a four-run top of the second—thanks to multiple hits and Lady Tigers errors—had given them a 4-0 lead. Their lead grew to 6-0 in the top of the sixth as well, getting a two-out two-RBI double from freshman Liza Page.

But five straight one-out singles had Breckinridge County reeling in the bottom of the sixth, as they led to four straight runs and 6-6 tie. Five straight hits followed as well, scoring four more runs to take a 10-6 lead before a double play sent the game into the seventh.

The E-gals had chances in the top of the seventh with back-to-back two-out errors, but were unable to cash in and lost to the Lady Tigers 10-6.

Senior Emmie Bullington took the loss in the circle, allowing six earned runs on nine hits while striking out a pair in 5 ⅓ innings pitched. Freshman Hannah Holder then came in and was unable to get an out, allowing four earned runs on five hits, while freshman Taylor Clark pitched two-thirds of an inning and allowed just one hit.

Page led the way at the plate with three straight RBIs, while senior Morgan Julian and Clark both had one RBI each. Apollo now sits at 13-12 overall with the loss, as they’ll look to bounce back against Ohio County at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Owensboro Catholic vs South Warren

The Lady Aces fell just short in a pitcher’s duel on the road Wednesday, falling to South Warren 2-1.

Owensboro Catholic had the first lead of the game, as senior Lilli Grant hit a leadoff home run in the top of the second despite being down in the count 1-2 to make it a 1-0 game. But that would be the only hit that the Lady Aces got on the day, as freshman Layla Ogden proceeded to strike out eight in a complete-game effort that resulted in a 2-1 win thanks also to a pair of runs in the fourth.

Senior Brooke Hamilton had a strong start despite taking the loss, allowing the two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four in six innings pitched. Owensboro Catholic falls to 20-9 overall with the loss, as they’ll look to bounce back against Henderson County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Owensboro vs Grayson County

The Lady Devils’ struggles offensively continued on Wednesday, as they couldn’t string together hits and ultimately lost to Grayson County 4-0 on the road.

Grayson County put up crooked numbers throughout the game, scoring one in the bottom of the first, the third and two in the bottom of the sixth. Owensboro was held to just four hits on the day as well, ultimately resulting in the 4-0 loss.

Sophomore Alyssa Rhineburger pitched the first three innings of the day, allowing two earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out one. Sophomore Kirsten Tindle followed with the next three innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits.

Sophomore Addison Hill, junior Ashleigh Howard, sophomore Hessi Johnson and junior Emmie Connor were the only Lady Devils with hits on the day. Owensboro falls to 8-19 overall with the loss, as they’ll now look to snap a three-game losing streak in their regular season finale at home against McLean County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
