The Lady Raiders split their doubleheader on Saturday, while Daviess County put an exclamation point on the end of the Team Lauren Cancer Awareness Tournament with an offensive showcase against Assumption.

Daviess County vs Assumption

The Lady Panthers scorching hot start helped them go 2-0 in the Team Lauren Cancer Awareness Tournament, defeating Assumption 17-4 on Saturday.

Daviess County didn’t waste much time getting going at the plate, as a leadoff single from sophomore Sadie Morris led to a one-out home run from senior Jessie Daniels to take a 2-0 lead. A plethora of hits—including a three-run home run from Morris—and errors followed, leading to a monstrous 13-run top of the first.

Assumption proceeded to get three in the bottom of the first, but they went on to get just one more in the bottom of the third and ultimately lost to the Lady Panthers 17-4. Morris and Daniels led the way at the plate with three RBIs each, while sophomore Macey Foreman had a pair and sophomore Hailey Payne, freshman Callie Smith, senior Kaydence Hamilton, senior Kaitlyn Hill, senior Alexis Jackson and senior Emma Stephens all had one each.

Sophomore Sophia Cain grabbed the win in her four-inning start, allowing four earned runs on four hits and one walk, while striking out four. Eighth grader Kamryn Timmons pitched the final inning, allowing just one walk while striking out two.

Daviess County improves to 25-4 overall with the win, as they now have a day before the 9th District Tournament starts with their game against Owensboro at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Trinity (Whitesville) vs North Hardin, Larue County

The Lady Raiders split a doubleheader in the Abe Lincoln Classic on Saturday, topping North Hardin 3-0 while falling to Larue County.

Trinity (Whitesville) got off to a strong start against North Hardin first, getting a pair of RBI singles from senior Abby Payne and seventh grader Ella Morris to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Morris came through again in the bottom of the sixth, delivering an RBI triple as the final blow in a 3-0 win. Senior Allie Barnett led the way in the circle, giving up no runs on five hits and a walk while striking out a pair.

The Lady Raiders didn’t have as much luck during the second game though, with Larue County getting a home run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. Larue County got two more runs in the bottom of the third as well, taking advantage of some Trinity miscues.

The Lady Raiders put up a fight with a two-out rally in the top of the sixth—getting a two-run double from senior Allie Graham—but fell short in a 3-2 six-inning loss. Trinity sits at 14-18 overall with the split, now looking ahead to their 12th District Tournament matchup with Butler County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
