The Lady Aces split their last two games of the Owensboro Catholic Classic on Saturday, while Daviess County’s winning streak was snapped with a pair of home losses to McCracken County.

Daviess County vs McCracken County (doubleheader)

A rough Saturday led to the end of a 12-game winning streak for the Lady Panthers, as McCracken County beat them 8-5 and 4-1 at home.

Daviess County got outscored in the latter half of their first game, as the Lady Mustangs grabbed a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and seventh to claim the 8-5 win.

Senior Raylee Roby didn’t have her best day in the circle, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out a pair in the loss. Meanwhile, seniors Jessie Daniels and Kaitlyn Hill led the way at the plate with a home run and two RBIs each.

The second game of the day wasn’t nearly as high-scoring, as a four-run top of the sixth for McCracken County led to the 4-1 loss for the Lady Panthers. Daviess County had the first lead of the game though, leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a leadoff single from YEAR Sadie Morris, a sac bunt from senior Kayley Payne and an RBI single from Daniels.

But a couple of walks to start the top of the sixth led to three-straight one out singles, scoring four runs and giving the Lady Mustangs a 4-1 lead. Daviess County would load the bases with a pair of one-out singles and a walk in the bottom of the sixth.

However, freshman Briley Henry proceeded to ground out into a double play, as the Lady Panthers were unable to score again en route to the 4-1 loss. Freshman Sophia Cain took the loss in her start, allowing four earned runs on three hits and two walks in 5 ⅓ innings pitched.

Eighth grader Kamryn Timmons pitched the last 1 ⅔ innings pitched, allowing no runs or hits while striking out a pair. Daniels led the way at the plate again in game two, going 2-3 with an RBI.

Daviess County fell to 21-4 with the pair of losses, as they’ll now look to turn things around at home Monday night against South Spencer at 5:30 p.m.

Owensboro Catholic vs Greenwood, Madisonville-North Hopkins

The Lady Aces split their last two games of the Owensboro Catholic Classic on Saturday, topping Greenwood 2-0 and falling to Madisonville-North Hopkins 7-6.

Senior Brooke Hamilton stole the show in game one against Greenwood, limiting them to just two hits while walking one and striking out six in the complete-game shutout. Senior Lilli Grant led the way at the plate in the meantime, grabbing a pair of RBIs in the win for the Lady Aces.

The second game of the day ended in four innings, as a combined 10-run fourth inning ended in Madisonville-North Hopkins grabbing a 7-6 walk-off win over Owensboro Catholic.

The Lady Aces were trailing 2-1 going into the bottom of the fourth after losing their early lead, but quickly had runners in scoring position with one down in the top of the fourth after a leadoff single from freshman Hannah Robbins, a walk and a groundout. Senior Abbie Dukate then delivered an RBI single, with two-out RBI singles from seniors Bailey Hamilton and Addison Tignor making it 6-2 going into the bottom of the fourth.

But a barrage of free bases and hits covered the bottom of the fourth, as a walk with the bases loaded led to the fifth and final run of the half-inning—also claiming the 7-6 walk-off win over Owensboro Catholic for Madisonville-North Hopkins.

The Lady Aces sit at 19-8 overall after the split doubleheader, as they’ll now look to bounce back on the road against Meade County at 7 p.m. on Monday.
